Who's it for?

Augmented & Virtual Reality is for the adventurer who wants to design their own piece of the future. You’re someone who thinks that if we aren’t all already living in a simulation, you want to help make that happen. It requires someone who can look beyond conventional solutions to innovate new approaches, someone who can think like a designer and create like a game developer. Most importantly it requires someone who’s not afraid of the unknown. We know that there’ll be many jobs in AR and VR in the future and the exciting part is that the industry is still deciding what they’ll be.

Reality is Overrated

Get out of your head, and jump into someone else’s. The 3D fad of the late ‘80s is back for good and Augmented & Virtual Reality (AR/VR) are on their way to revolutionising how we interact with all forms of creative work. Whether it’s video, graphic design, fashion, marketing or architecture; AR and VR change the game across the board and throw out all the rules we’ve come to know and expect. The slate may now be clean — but it has a few more dimensions.

Down The Rabbit Hole

AR and VR are relatively young creative practices, meaning they are really ‘open game’ to those willing to accept the challenge. It’s a rare opportunity to be among the minority who creatively lead a new wave of technology — but for those bold enough to embrace the unknown, the spoils await. Bring your passion and skills from the creative world and learn how to develop truly unique experiences for an emerging audience of users. There is arguably no area of creativity with the same potential for interpretation — and high-level funding and investment - as AR and VR.

About this Pathway

The Foundry Approach

Our pathways are made up of two distinct tracks of learning: skills and thinking. The skills track allows you to get super nerdy by immersing you in the specialised skills needed to excel in your discipline and the thinking track focuses on the universal thinking and theory that ties creative industries together.

Augmented & Virtual Reality Skills

Get ready to create the future. Beginning with Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) you’ll jump headfirst into creating your own immersive experiences and realties. You’ll use 3D modelling, sound and effects to create believable digital environments that transport your users to another place. With your green screens and render farms, you’ll be a new breed of pioneer.

Universal Thinking

On the surface, the creative industries seems focused on form (ideas and visuals), but there is a whole other side that lives below making sure everything runs effortlessly. You’ll learn the languages of code, interaction and digital realities. Most importantly you’ll discover how to design and create seamless and intuitive interfaces so the users can stay focused on the experience.

Your Pathway Starts in The Wild

The Wild is the first six months of a two-year creative pathway. Here you will learn the foundations that you need to succeed in creative industries while tasting your career options. For those who know what they want to do, and those who haven’t quite figured it out yet, The Wild is the starting point for every Foundry creative.

Industry Guests

During your time at Foundry, you’ll benefit from our industry guests as part of our Season Pass program. Every month we fly national guests to Tasmania to speak to our students about their experiences as working creatives. Outrageous? Perhaps to others. But to us it’s a must-have part of the Foundry experience? Absolutely.
